About the Business

For over 1,000 years almshouse charities have been providing a unique form of safe, secure, warm homes for people in need. Far from being a relic of the past, however, the almshouse movement remains vibrant and The Almshouse Association, which was established in 1946, continues to be the sole support organisation for over 1,600-member almshouse charities throughout the UK, which, collectively, provide accommodation for approximately 36,000 residents.  The Almshouse Association is a charity in its own right and its Royal Patron is King Charles III.

About the role

As the Associate for The Almshouse Association, the successful candidate will lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between University of Suffolk and The Almshouse Association and will be based in Windsor at The Almshouse Association’s office, but the role will also involve travel across the UK.  The Associate will enable The Almshouse Association to develop the almshouse model into an agile integrated housing solution.

Project Description:

The project will position almshouses as the gold standard in community-driven charity-led housing by showcasing their social and wellbeing benefits, raising awareness, and strengthening government support for almshouses. Interviewing and engaging with a range of stakeholders, including almshouse residents, you will enable a step-change in the perception and support for almshouses, across a broad range of stakeholders including local authorities, government, and philanthropists. The overall aim of the project is to ensure almshouses are recognised as the exemplar form of community-led housing and expand their reach across the UK in areas of greatest housing need and be accepted as part of the governments housing strategy.
